Transgenic plants expressing cationic peptide chimeras exhibit broad-spectrum resistance to phytopathogens

Article Abstract:

This article reports on the research into the plant genetics of the two strains of potatoes Desiree and Russet Burbank and their resistance to plant disease. The strategy used in engineering the transgenic plants could be used to develop other plants that are disease resistant. Also it can address the worldwide losses in food distribution that result from poor crop harvestfrom diseased plants. The research was conducted at the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, both in Canada.
