Turning biodefense dollars into products

Article Abstract:

A survey of R&D programs to develop new products to counter biological security threats reveals that biodefense funding has thus far produced only a very small number of vaccines and therapeutics targeting potential bioterrorism agents. The larger pharmaceutical companies have little chance of recovering expenditures spent on the development of vaccines or therapeutics for most biodefense applications without guaranteed purchase by federal, state and local government support.
