UK Defense Review sets out the plan

Article Abstract:

The UK Strategic Defence Review presented by Secretary of State for Defence George Robertson to the House of Commons addresses the Labour Party's 1997 Election Manifesto for a robust defense force and foreign policy-focused review. Aside from the foreign policy review, the Trident ballistic missile submarine force is also tasked to provide the UK with a strategic deterrence cabapility. The foreign policy review also spawned an expeditionary strategy that which is reinforced by a strategic deterrent. The systems procured, the people recruited and trained, and the support needed to perform such tasks will also have to comply with the government's demand for them to provide for peacetime security, security of overseas territories, defense diplomacy, peace-support and humanitarian operations, support of wider British interests, regional conflict outside and inside the NATO area and strategic attack on NATO.
