UK unit trusts investing in the Far East have been affected by pressures on emerging markets in 1994. Investors have lost money in such trusts over 1994, while they made large gains prior to that year. Some funds did perform well in 1994, despite the general performance of the sector. One such good perfomer is Baring Korea, though as a general rule, investors should be wary of funds focusing on just one country. Investors should be cautious about Far Eastern markets, excluding Japan, since there are dangers from the possible repatriation of US cash, and from the political situation in China.

There are a number of collective investment products which are based on the US market, and many of these have performed well, including some geared to internet and technology stocks which may also involve risk. There is a debate about the future of stock prices in the US, though there is agreement that interest rates are set to rise. Small and medium companies are seen as offering good value while some larger technology companies may have stocks that are overvalued.
