Unnatural

Article Abstract:

US interest rates could change in Jul 1997 and there are concerns that they may be raised because of inflationary pressure from lower unemployment. Data on wage costs do not show such pressure and there may be a lower natural level of unemployment in the US than estimated. Slower economic growth could mean that interest rate raise are not needed even if there are wage pressures. There is too little data for certainty on inflation forecasts and their link with unemployment, and this contributes to volatility for views on interest rate changes.
