Using simulation to improve the decision-making process

Article Abstract:

A hospital decided that a simulation-based decision-making system was the best answer in negotiating with its unionized nursing staff. The system would allow negotiation decisions to be tested before they were made. Developers of the system made sure that they had the full cooperation of the hospital by completing the system quickly which earned them credibility. Skills and excitement could then easily be transferred to the client. In turn, the hospital got a system which allowed them to gauge the real cost of negotiations. It also allowed for new discussions on what was important for the hospital.
