WT Foods: mmm...tasty

Article Abstract:

WT Foods has a strong position in the UK market for African and West Idian Foods. The main business is Enco which has returned to profitablity after the installation of a new management team. Stocks have been reduced and Enco's spices have been removed since they overlapped with Bart Spices, alsopart of WT Foods. Operating margins have improved in the half year to Sep 1996 though sales have been flat due to product reductions. The company's full year profit is forecast at 1.5 million pounds sterling by Williams de Broe.

HJ Heinz

Article Abstract:

HJ Heinz is a US processed foods company which has tended to expand to increase its geographical coverage as much as to extend profuct ranges. The company has seen rises in volume sales as well as earnings and its performance has been helped by subsidiaries such as Weight Watchers, as well as by acquisitions. The industry has been affected by an increase in private-label sales, a trend which may have slowed, but efficiency gains and new geographical markets have become more important.
