Wasteful security contracts rob funds from true defense programs: AEI

Article Abstract:

An American Enterprise Institute (AEI) report stated that wasteful spending by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is funneling money to programs that do little or nothing to augment security, in a wrongheaded system devised by Congress. The funds are being sent to remote areas such as Wyoming, Wisconsin and North Dakota, and going to projects such as bridge repair, aid to the needy and a summer job programs, rather than to armored vehicles or airport-perimeter protective systems against terrorist anti-aircraft missiles.

QDR to be irrelevant if Congress doesn't provide funds

Article Abstract:

Michelle Flournoy of the Center for Strategic and International Studies believes that legislators should participate in the US military's Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) to help Congress understand and consequently fund procurement requirements. Capitol Hill's current lack of a sense of urgency that military transformation must be fully funded and pushed forward needs to be reversed if the QDR is not to be made irrelevant.
