What to do when the IRS knocks

Article Abstract:

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) allocates about 33 percent of its $2 billion plus budget to tax investigations. Though the government agency has about 89,000 employees (including roughly 28,500 involved in the examination function), the IRS has just one worker for every 1,000 taxpayers. The Discriminate Function (DIF) system has been used by the IRS since 1969 for the classification of income tax returns based on their tax-change potential.
