What's ahead for wholesale intermediation

Article Abstract:

One of the more significant banking developments in the decade of the 1990s could be securitization. Other trends that will lower the demand for bank credit services may also emerge. However, these may pose difficulties for these financial institutions in implementing full-cost pricing of commercial loans. Given these difficulties, some banks may choose to minimize lending operations and focus instead on the provision of payments and risk management services.

Innovation in retail banking

Article Abstract:

Retail bankers must shift their operations from mere gatherers of deposits to managers of the entire balance sheet of the increasingly dissatisfied middle class. Banks can undertake such a transition at an affordable cost through th use of a new patented system that combines multiple accounts, which enables a client to convert comparatively lower mortgage borrowings into high-yielding, after-tax return maximized retirement investments.
