Wheels of fortune

Article Abstract:

The extent to which banks support business in north west England will affect the survival of businesses and whether a recession occurs. Five United Kingdom clearing banks have specialist structured finance teams located in Manchester in the region. Specialist teams can reduce risks for banks as well as enhancing service for clients. Hawkpoint Partners dominates among merchant banks in the region. N.M. Rothschild also operates in the region, and has increased its corporate finance staff fourfold in northern England.

Banks

Article Abstract:

NatWest Markets and N.M. Rothschilds are major players in the corporate finance market in north west England. Smaller players include BZW and British Linen Bank. Very large deals tend to be dealt with in London, England. Accountants are providing competition especially in giving advice on mergers and acquisitions. Accountants are less able to compete on larger deals since they cannot supply large amounts of debt, or underwrite, and banks can.
