Top of the Peps

Article Abstract:

Investment trusts personal equity plans seem to be preferred by United Kingdom professional investors, rather than unit trusts. Some trusts can offer good growth prospects because they follow the performance of larger companies. BMS Millsmith's Tim Johnson favors Mercury European Privatisation Investment Trust as relatively cheap, and backed by Merrill Lynch, so offering financial strength. He also favors the Smaller Companies Investment Trust from Gartmore.

When the going gets rough...

Article Abstract:

Monthly investment plans using investment trusts can offer investors a low-charge way of reducing risk through bad timing at a time when markets are falling. Charges tend to be higher for smaller investors, but this is less trust for investment trust savings schemes, which have very low charges. There is some loss of flexibility with these savings plans, while stocks in investment trusts can be sold at any time. Investment trusts are good investment vehicles for the long term, though some have wide discounts in relation to asset value.
