Why landlords are good for us

Article Abstract:

The presumption prevailing in the U. K. that wealth and owning one's own home go hand in hand is questioned. Combining living and investing has undesirable effects and it would benefit the country's economy if the same rate of capital gains tax was levied on homes as on business investment thus encouraging renting rather than owning of homes.

A common set of principles should underlie the financial reporting by all entities as per the Accounting Standards Board (ASB) published in 1999 in its Statement of Principles for Financial Reporting, which was aimed primarily at profit-oriented entities. The ASBs thinking behind proposed new guidance for public benefit entities is explained.
