Why members stay in or leave an R&D consortium: performance and conditions of membership as determinants of continuity

Article Abstract:

The reasons given by organizations for either staying or leaving an R and D consortium are analyzed in the context of membership conditions and performance. Hypotheses surrounding membership conditions were derived using transaction cost and power dependence theories while a separate set of hypotheses were generated for performance. The analysis of data derived from 184 members organizations of R and D consortia in the US reveals that factors such as performance, network ties, knowledge-related involvement, alternatives and learning are involved in the decision to either leave or stay within the group. Further analyses of the derived data indicate that performance leads to the subsequent conditions of membership and that the level of performance is a major factor in continuity decisions.

Use your home to stay at home

Article Abstract:

The reverse mortgage, also known as the reverse annuity mortgage, greatly benefits senior citizens who are having financial difficulties because of insufficient retirement benefits. The system allows retirees to obtain no-payment loans, with their homes as collateral, which may be paid out as a lump sum, a partial lump sum with monthly payments of the balance, or as monthly payments for a specified time or for life. Among the more popular versions of the reverse mortgage are the lifetime plan, the term plan and the line of credit term plan. Although reverse mortgages are just gaining popularity in Canada, they have been used in the UK and the US for over 20 years.
