Article Abstract:

The brand reputation and strong export growth of BRL, an Australian wine company, led to its merger with U.S. beverage giant Constellation Brands. The merger with BRL will make Constellation Wines the biggest wine company by sales in the world, with estimated annual revenues of about three billion dollars.

The role played by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and Trade Practices Act (TPA) are discussed. The ACCC devotes time to consumer issues whereas TPA promotes market competition.
