Worldesign report

Article Abstract:

The Worldesign conference, organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America, was largely devoted to environmental issues. PBS personality James Burke spoke of the population explosion and the liberating effects of an increasingly accessible information technology system. Hunter Lovins, president of Aspen's Rocky Mountain Institute, spoke of the need to manage energy and natural resources and the role played by the designer in resource management. Paul MacCready spoke of his radical departures in transport design and Peter Axelson described his inventions for the disabled.

Benetton Group annual report 1991

Article Abstract:

The 1991 Annual Report of the Benetton Group S.p.A. won a gold award in the graphics category of the 1992 I. D. Annual Design Review. The report was described as groundbreaking and refreshing. The use of oversized typography and colorful images combinied with excellent pacing and handling of text and imagery scales contribute to a design that was praised for being lucid, vibrant and intelligent.

More than 150,000 computer technology enthusiasts and users attended Comdex, the computer industry's largest trade and technology exhibittion in North America. Portable networked personal devices and the desktop multimedia machines attracted the attention of viewers at the exhibition. These latest developments in computer technology offers new possibilities in applications for designers.
