Wrist motions in industry

Article Abstract:

Industrial workers have a high incidence of cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs), a disorder of tendons and nerves brought about by monotonous activities and excessive movements. A survey was conducted on workers' three-dimensional wrist-motions on the factory floor. Angular velocity and acceleration measures of wrist motion seemingly place CTD risk levels more distinctly than wrist position measures. The importance of dynamic measures in ergonomic assessment jobs should be emphasized.

Quantitative MRI and electrophysiology of preoperative carpal tunnel syndrome in a female population

Article Abstract:

Female patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and asymptomatic subjects were examined to quantify the volume of the carpal tunnel in a selected population. A bilateral volumetric quantification of the whole tunnel from inlet to outlet was conducted. The carpal tunnel volume and location between the two group were found to be the same. The role of carpal canal in the development of carpal tunnel syndrome was uncertain.

Quantitative biomechanical analysis of wrist motion in bone-trimming jobs in the meat packing industry

Article Abstract:

A study on the magnitude and types of wrist motion used in bone-trimming jobs in the meat packing industry was undertaken. Nine healthy male meat packing workers participated in the study. Results show that bone-trimming workers are classified as high risk for developing cumulative trauma disorder (CTD), providing evidence for the numerous occurrence of CTDs in the meat packing industry.
