Your friendly neighborhood mosque: Meet Singapore's style of Islam

The Assyafah Mosque, built in Singapore in 2005, presents an image of a friendly neighborhood mosque, with its contemporary design, totally unlike the Middle Eastern mosque archetype. The modern design is strategic, since Singapore wishes to avoid any misunderstanding that a mosque is associated with Islamic terrorists.

An opinion that the excessive use of air-conditioning in the United States has dulled the senses of the people and is responsible for the loss of American culture is expressed. A comparison is made with Barcelona, Spain, where air-conditioning is sparse and people get acclimated to the natural heat.

A waiting period of unknown duration in a stultifyingly neutral environment known as a Sensory Deprivation Zone (An SDZ) is described. The most egregious type of SDZ not only diminishes user's ability to complete an action at hand but also affects sensory distraction and resolution.
