Your very own manager

Article Abstract:

The number of smaller fund management companies in the UK specializing in portfolio management for private clients is growing. The bulk of the work of these managers pertains to discretionary portfolios, but most also offer advisory services. Investors looking for such fund managers are advised to review their qualifications before finally selecting one. It would be prudent to go with a small fund manager that is authorized by regulatory agencies or by reputable professional organizations, does not have any conflicts of interest, and can meet the particular needs of the investor. Getting to know one another is essential to a successful investor-fund manager relationship. Some of the more well-known smaller fund management firms are BDO Binder Hamlyn, Smith & Williamson, Taylor-Yound Investment Management, Granville Investment Management, Dundedin Fund Managers, and Kleinwort Benson Private Bank.

Openings in leisure for experienced extroverts

Article Abstract:

The UK leisure industry offers opportunities for chartered accountants who possess gregarious personalities. Harrison Willis Group Dir John Vonk believes that people will not cut back on their spending on leisure during a recession, so there will be a increasing demand for professionals by the leisure industry, including such businesses as television, music, and sports. Experience in the leisure industry is a plus, but will not prevent accountants from being hired if their personality fits the companies. The advantages of working in the leisure industry are personal fulfillment and good compensation, ranging from between 26,000 and 29,000 pounds sterling for newly-qualified accountants, and going up to 35,000 pounds for accountants with two or more years experience.
