Stanislaus Farm Supply of Modesto, CA, founded in 1949, makes sure that it maintains strong community relations. The farm cooperative's landscaping efforts is a prime example of this community commitment at work. Stanislaus' facility has no walls and is always open for people to take tours. The company is also a regular participant of the Plant Doctor program, which teaches fourth graders in local schools how production agriculture takes food from the field and puts it onto the dinner table.

Agway, Southern States align
Article Abstract:
Southern States Cooperative Inc of Richmond, VA, and Agway Inc of Syracuse, NY, have decided to join forces in serving Agway's dealerships in the US Northeast. The two organizations, perrenial members of 'Farm Chemicals' magazine's Top 100 Dealerships and Cooperatives, have agreed to develop a product marketing/distribution system for both nonbranded and branded products. The system, which is also aimed at widening their markets, is expected to be implemented in Jul 2000.

Farm equipment dealers who are thinking of offering site-specific services such as variable-rate fertilizer application (VRA) need to be prepared for the large expenditure in facilities , personnel, software and equipment that such a move will entail. They should realize that reaching a business volume level that will produce a high annual return on investment requires patience. Determining the real cost of such activities as VRA is crucial in profitability analyses.
