Adsorption of n-alkanes on silicalite crystals. A temperature-programmed desorption study

Article Abstract:

A study was undertaken to determine the adsorption mechanism of n-alkanes on silicalite using a temperature-programmed desorption technique. Silicalite is a microporous silica polymorph of ZSM5 with possible application as a shape-selective adsorbent for the n-alkane separation from isoalkanes. Results showed silicalite was an homogenous adsorbent for n-butane. The desorption occurred under conditions similar to equilibrium which led to the proposal naming the technique as temperature-programmed equilibration.

HCl and HCl-base adducts in silicalite channels as models of acid-base interactions in zeolites: an IR and theoretical study

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine HCl adsorbed on silica and on silicalite and of HCl-B adducts formed in silicalite channels at approximately 210 K using infrared spectroscopy. Ab initio and molecular dynamics calculations were also conducted. Results indicate that a weak H-bond interaction occurs between HCl molecules and silanols and that adducts of increasing nuclearity are formed when the HCl dosage is increased.
