Adsorption properties of C10E8 at the water-hexane interface

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the dynamic adsorption and equilibrium properties of octaethylene glycol n-decyl ether (C10E8) using various tensiometric methods. The characterization of the adsorption isotherms was carried out in the range from 15 to 35 degrees C at both water-air and water-hexane interfaces. Results suggest that the adsorption characteristics at both water-hexane and water-air interfaces can be sufficiently described in the framework of a model in which the possibility of different orientations for the adsorbed molecules is considered.

Dynamic elasticity of adsorption layers in the presence of internal reorientation processes

Article Abstract:

The frequency dependence of the dynamic dilational elasticity, epsilon, within the framework of the two-state model is calculated to understand the rheological behaviour of an adsorption layer in the presence of reorientation process. Results suggest that the phase of epsilon is independent of monotonic function of the frequency, as predicted by the classical Langmuir model, but does indicate the presence of a local maximum.

Effect of nanoparticles on the interfacial properties of liquid/liquid and liquid/air surface layers

Article Abstract:

An investigation on the interfacial properties of nanometric colloidal silica dispersions in the presence of a cationic surfactant is reported. The result of the experimental work show how dispersed nanoparticles in an aqueous phase could modify the interfacial properties of the liquid/air or liquid/liquid systems if their surface is modified by the presence of an ionic surfactant.
