Aged titania nanoparticles: The simultaneous control of local and long-range properties

Article Abstract:

A procedure that combines hydrothermal treatments of variable time length performed in mild conditions, with a sol-gel route to obtain the titanium oxide hydrous precursor is presented. The combination of aging steps, performed in mild conditions with the opportune selection of the sol-gel parameters, has led to ordered anatase nanocrystalline powders of 6-8nm with large surface area and small interparticle mesopores.

A comparative study on electrochemical macromachining of n-GaAs and p-Si by using confined etchant layer technique

Article Abstract:

A study demonstrates that 3-D micromachining by indirect electrochemical etching of n-GaAs and p-Si can be accomplished using the confined etchant layer technique (CELT) with appropriate etching solutions. Results indicate that the success of this process depends mainly on the concentration of l-cystine to [Br.sup.-] in the etching solution.

Structural and spectroscopic investigation of blue, vanadium-doped ZrSiO(sub 4) pigments prepared by a Sol-Gel route

Article Abstract:

A sol-gel reaction starting from silicon and zirconium alkoxides in water-ethanol mixtures was employed to obtain vanadium-doped zirconium silicate powders (zircon) were performed. The study revealed that addition of NaF apart from promoting the blue color and the zircon structures causes the localization of V in sites with lower symmetry.
