AgrEvo mit neuer US-Produktionsanlage

Article Abstract:

AgrEvo has put into operation a new production plant in Muskegon, Michigan. The new factory produces glufosinat ammonium, which AgrEvo has until now produced in Knapsack and Frankfurt and exported to the US and Canada. The company invested US$ 60mn in the new plant and increased capacity also in the existing factories. The substance is used in the Liberty herbicide. The LibertyLink technology by AgrEvo combines traditional chemical plant protection and biotechnology so that the herbicide is suitable for genetically altered plants. In the US, Liberty is already used for maize and soy, and an approval for Canola rape is expected in 1999. Rice and cotton should follow in 2001. AgrEvo, subsidiary of the German companies Hoechst and Schering, has a 9% share in the world market for plant protectives.
