Albemarle boosts its FR position

Albemarle Corp., in its efforts to strengthen its position in the flame retardants sector, has increased its shares from 25% to 75% in two Chinese joint ventures: Ningbo Jinhai Albemarle Chemical & Industry and Shanghai Jinhai Albemarle Fine Chemicals. The company will also increase the capacity for its Martinal ATH flame retardants at its Martinswerk site. The factors that contributed to the company's activities are discussed.

Blackstone heads into China with BlueStar stake

US-based private equity firm Blackstone is spending 430 million euros to buy 20% of the shares of China National Blue Star, a subsidiary of China National Chemical. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is Blackstone's first investment in China. The scope of the investment, and Blue Star's business and financial performance, are given.
