Behavior of acetonitrile confined to mesoporous silica gels as studied by (super 129)Xe NMR: A novel method for determining the pore sizes

Article Abstract:

(Super 129)Xe NMR of xenon dissolved in acetonitrile confined into three mesoporous silica gels with nominal pore diameters of 40, 60, and 100 Angstrom were measured over the temperature range 170-245 K. One of the results were that the chemical shift of a particular signal observed below the melting point of confined acetonitrile is highly sensitive to the pore size, and its shape is sensitive to the pore size distribution function.

Stability of substituted phenyl groupEs electrochemically grafted at carbon electrode surface

Article Abstract:

The stability of substituted phenyl groups, present at the glassy carbon electrode surface, is studied at various electrode potentials in aqueous media using electrochemical impedance and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopies. The electrochemical reduction of aryl diazonium tetrafluroborate salt, dissolved in acetonitrile, at a carbon electrode surface allowed the grafting of aryl groups with the formation of a carbon-carbon bond.

Voltammetric studies of through-space and through-bond electrostatic interactions in alkyl linked ferrocene and benzoaza-15-crown-5 receptor molecules in Acetonitrile

Article Abstract:

Six new ferrocene alkyl-benzoaza-15-crown-5 molecules with different alkyl spacer lengths were synthesized and investigated by voltammetry in acetonitrile. Diffusion coefficients with insignificant differences between the receptors and their fully protonated forms were derived from cyclic voltammograms, suggesting insignificant further conformational variation upon protonation.
