Article Abstract:

Farm supply dealers are given by agriculture chemical companies numerous options on what type of herbicide program to sell. These include manufacturers' programs that package either seed and a specific weed control and rebate programs such as weed control guarantees , replant payments and cash-back incentives. Faced with these packages, it is important for dealerships to get enough information about the different herbicide programs and choose the program that best fits the needs of their grower-customers.

Brandt Consolidated Inc of Pleasant Plains, IL, relies on its commitment to in-house training and access to high-technology information to enhance its precision ag service offerings. The dealership, one of the recipients of the SiteLiner Dealership Award for 2000, chose the HighQ Decision Support System supplied by AgVenture LLC for its data management system back in 1997. The system allows growers to compare their yield performances from crop to crop and against other growers and make the needed adjustments.

Learning seed needs

Novartis Crop Protection Inc., headquartered in Greensboro, NC, is consulting with seed dealerships for its seed treatment applications. Novartis is the manufacturer seed treatment products that include Apron XL, Dividend and Maxim. The company's fungicide seed treatment Maxim has obtained EPA approval for use on all crops in September 1998. The firm is also poised to introduce new insecticides treatments like adage on cotton, cereals, canola and sorghum in 1999 and for corn and potatoes by 2000.
