Catalytic hydrodeoxygenation of methyl-substituted phenols: Correlations of kinetic parameters with molecular properties

Article Abstract:

The effects of methyl substituents on the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) reactivity of methyl-substituted phenols and the relative reactivities among various methyl-substituted species to intrinsic properties of the reactant molecules as determined from electronic structure calculations are investigated. The intrinsic reactant-molecule properties have suggested that the dependencies of adsorption and reaction rates upon methyl-group substitution are a result of the substituents' effects on the electrostatic potential and orbitals rather than steric effects.

Free-radical generation from collapsing microbubbles in the absence of a dynamic stimulus

Article Abstract:

The study focuses on the generation of free radicals from the collapsing cavitation microbubbles in the absence of a dynamic stimulus, which normally occurs as a result of the extremely high temperature induced by adiabatic compression during the violent collapse process. The increase in the surface charges of the microbubbles during the process show that the increase in the ion concentration provides the mechanism for radical generation.
