Characterization of cyanine dye-labeled poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) core/shell microgels using fluorescence resonance energy transfer

Article Abstract:

The swelling behavior of core component in poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) core shell microgels is studied via fluorescence resonance energy transfer. The shell thickness can be calculated as the apparent shell thickness obtained from the PCS measurements underestimates the actual thickness by an amount equivalent to the compression-induced core radius decrease.

Microgel colloidal crystals

Article Abstract:

The utility of temperature-induced volume phase transitions in controlling the crystallization and melting of the colloidal crystals are described which enables the study of the complex phase behavior of certain types of microgels. Further, the utility of soft-sphere crystals in the development of new photonic materials is presented.

Unidirectional plasmon propagation in metallic nanowires

Article Abstract:

The observation of unidirectional plasmon propagation in metallic nanowires over distances greater than 10-mu m is reported. The results would contribute to the growing interest in optical energy transport in molecular-level and nanoscale devices.
