Comparison of dielectric relaxations of water mixtures of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) and 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone

Article Abstract:

Microwave dielectric investigations on the dynamics of water in poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP)-water mixtures and 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidinone (VP)-water mixtures were conducted to compare the relaxation processes of water in polymer-water and monomeric compound-water mixtures. For the PVP-water mixtures, a relaxation peak for water was seen and the shape of the absorption curve was symmetrical about the logalism of frequency, which is appropriately represented by the Cole-Cole equation. On the other hand, one relaxation peak due to the rotational motion of the absorption curve is asymmetric and described well by the KWW function.

Dynamics of water in a polymer matrix studied by a microwave dielectric measurement

Article Abstract:

Dielectric measurements of water mixtures on various polymers were performed. A time domain reflectometric analysis of the samples were conducted. This approach provided insight on the influence of the chemical structure of the polymer chain on the dynamic behavior of water. The dependence of the water structure on variations in the local conformation of the random coiled polymer chain was observed. This resulted in the broader relaxation time distribution of the water molecules.

Dynamics of water in partially crystallized polymer/water mixtures studied by dielectric spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The dielectric relaxation process of water was examined for polymer/water mixtures. Results indicate that the formation of ice crystals or uncrystallized water depends upon the mobility of the water molecules.
