Coverage-dependent infrared spectroscopy of carbon monoxide on iridium(111) in aqueous solution: a benchmark comparison between chemisorption in ordered electrochemical and ultrahigh-vacuum environments

Article Abstract:

The influence of the electrochemical double layer on the chemisorbate vibrational responses of carbon monoxide on ordered Ir(111) has been investigated by infrared reflection-absorption spectra. Comparisons are made between the dosed coverage-dependent C-O stretch frequencies, integrated band intensities and bandwidths between the aqueous electrochemical and UHV-based interfaces. Results show that intensity-transfer effects are exhibited in larger bandwidths in the local CO oscillator density. The lower extent in UHV systems is due to nonrandom CO absorption.

Use of side-chain functionalization to lower the miscibility pressure of polydimethylsiloxanes in CO2

Article Abstract:

Functionalized silicones were prepared via the hydrosilylation of model dimethylsiloxane-hydromethylsiloxane oligomers over a platinum catalyst. Both allyl acetate and 1-hexane were used to produce side chains to investigate the effect of the ester group on the phase behavior of the oligomers in CO2. Results show that judicious side chain functionalization of a silicone material can generate an oligomer whose phase behavior in CO2 is similar to that of a fluorinated polyether.
