Direct atomic force microscopic determination of surface charge at the gold/electrolyte interface-the inadequacy of classical GCS theory in describing the double-layer charge distribution

Article Abstract:

The surface charge at the interface of a Au electrode with a KClO4 solution is measured using a modified cantilever with a charged SiO2 sphere by in situ atomic force microscopy (AFM). The result show that the effective charge is much smaller than that injected electrochemically, with the ratio of the effective/real surface charge to the electrochemical charge being below 10 percent.

Adsorption of CN at the Pt(111)/liquid interface by dissociation of acetonitrile and the potentiality of CO contamination: a sum-frequency generation study

Article Abstract:

The adsorption of cyanide on the Pt(111) surface by dissociation of acetonitrile CH3CN is examined by using sum-frequency generation (SFG) and cyclic voltammetry. The results reveal that bands near 1860 and 2073 cm(super -1) in sum-frequency generation (SFG) spectra generate from adsorbed CO, produced by oxidation of CH2CN vapor at the hot Pt crystal.

Self-assembly of a rodlike polypeptide on solid surfaces: role of solvent, molecular weight, and time of assembly

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to study the interplay between preparative conditions and molecular characteristics during the self-assembly of alpha-helical polypeptide. The results reveal that the self-assembly of polypeptides is dependent on the role of solvent, molecular weight and time of the assembly.
