Effective structure factor of osmotically deformed nanoemulsions

Article Abstract:

The structure of a uniform silicone oil-in-water nanoemulsion stabilized by sodium dodecyl sulfate over a wide range of volume fractions, [phi], up to and beyond the limit associated with maximal random jamming of spheres, [[phi].sub.MRJ] = 0.64 is explored using small-angle neutron scattering. It is observed that for [phi] near and beyond [[phi].sub.MRJ], the effective structure factor, [S.sub.eff], as a function of wavenumber, q, exhibits a primary peak that is subunity.

Importance of polarization in quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics descriptions of electronic excited states: NaI[([H.sub.2]O).sub.n] photodissociation dynamics as a case study

Article Abstract:

The effects of solvation on elementary electron-transfer reactions are examined by implementing a quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) description of the NaI[([H.sub.2]O).sub.n] electronic structure and intermolecular interactions that has included solvent polarization. The studies have highlighted the importance of including polarization in realistic excited-state simulations of NaI[([H.sub.2]O).sub.n] relaxation.
