Effects of water content and molecular weight on spin probe and water mobility in malto-oligomer glasses

Article Abstract:

Saturation transfer ESR in malto-oligomer water glasses is used to study spin probe rotational mobility and is compared to water mobility as measured by H NMR. It is concluded that a decrease in spin probe mobility at Y(sub 8) when the water content is increased from 10 to 30 wt % is caused by the fact that the overall packing of water and carbohydrate molecules in the hydrogen-bonded network becomes denser upon increasing water content.

Mixed concentrated water/oil emulsions (fluorinated/hydrogenated): formulation, properties, and structural studies

Article Abstract:

The formulation and properties of peculiar emulsions of highly concentrated water-in-oil emulsions consisting of five compounds namely, a fluorinated surfactant, a hydrogenated surfactant, a fluorocarbon, a hydrocarbon, and water are prepared and examined. The study of the phase behavior shows that the mixed emulsions are triphasic systems constituted by two kinds of mixed microemulsions coexisting with an aqueous phase.

Aggregation and protonation phenomena in third phase formation: An NMR study of the quarternary malonamide/dodecane/nitric acid/water system

Article Abstract:

NMR spectroscopy was used for studying the phase behavior of the liquid-liquid solvent extraction system N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-dibutyl-2-tetradecylmalonamide (DMDBTDMA) in n-dodecane / aqueous HNO3. Results of the NMR spectroscopy indicate that the organic phase before and after demixtion may be characterized by the same unifying parameter, the analytical HNO3 to DMDBTDMA molar ratio N/a.
