Electro-nanopatterning of surface relief gratings on azobenzene layer-by-layer ultrathin films by current-sensing atomic force microscopy

Article Abstract:

The electro-nanopatterning and mechanism of pattern formation in azobenzene-containing layer-by-layer (LbL) ultrathin films is described using surface probe microscopy techniques. The anisotropic mass transport and polar alignment of the azobenzene-containing films is observed after applying the electric filed and heating the sample locally with the cantilever tip.

Nanopatterning and nanocharge writing in layer-by-layer quinquethiophene/phthalocyanine ultrathin films

Article Abstract:

A novel read-write device using a standard current-sensing atomic force is provided by nanometer-scale patterning and charging in layer-by-layer (LbL) ultrathin films of quinquethiophene (5Tn)/phthalocyanine (CuPS). The LbL self-assembly method is one of the most convenient techniques for fabricating molecularly controlled ultrathin multilayer films.

Induced water condensation and bridge formation by electric fields in atomic force microscopy

Article Abstract:

An analytical model that describes how, in humid environments, the electric field near a sharp tip boosts the formation of water menisci and bridges between the tip and a sample is presented. The predictions of the model are compared with the experimental values of the jump-to-contact distances as a function of humidity and electric field.
