Electrochemical studies of polynucleotide binding and oxidation by metal complexes: effects of scan rate, concentration, and sequence

Article Abstract:

An investigation into the electrocatalytic oxidation of guanine in DNA and oligonucleotides by metal complexes is discussed, including the effects of scan rate, concentration and sequence.

Electrocatalysis of guanine electron transfer: new insights from submillimeter carbon electrodes

Article Abstract:

The carbon electrodes are used to reduce the electroactive area of the ITO electrodes that were previously used by a factor of 600, from 0.32 cm(super 2) to 0.0005 cm(super 2). Digital simulation of the resulting cyclic voltammograms shows that the efficiency of electrocatalytic oxidation of guanine mediated by Ru(bpy)3(super 2+) is determined in large part by the extent of association of Ru(bpy)3(super 3+/2+) with DNA, which is controlled by the salt concentration in solution.

Proton-coupled electron transfer in guanine oxidation: effects of isotope, solvent, and chemical modification

Article Abstract:

The proton-coupled electron-transfer reactions of guanine and other modified purine nucleobases are investigated by electrochemistry and stopped-flow spectrophotometry. It is found that the slope, isotope effect, and number of protons involved in the reaction for guanine oxidation are the same for either duplex or single-stranded DNA.
