Electrokinetic potentials of binary self-assembled monolayers on gold: acid-base reactions and double layer structure

Article Abstract:

The electrokinetic charge density and the dissociation behavior of the surface carboxylic acid groups in binary self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA)/11-mercapto-undecanol (MUOH), and 16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid (MHA)/hexadecimal (HDT) on planar gold surfaces are analyzed by streaming potential and streaming current measurements in aqueous electrolyte solutions.

Length dependence of charge transport in nanoscopic molecular junctions incorporating a series o`f rigid thiol-terminated norbornylogs

Article Abstract:

Four tetrathiol-terminated nonbornane homologues were synthesized and self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of these molecules were formed on Au via adsorption from CH(sub 2)Cl(sub 2). Results show that the rigid norbornylogs form monolayers have a surface coverage slightly lower than that of alkanethiols, and that they exhibit a nonmonotonic dependence of film thickness on molecular length.

Comparison of electronic transport characterization methods for alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers

Article Abstract:

Room-temperature charge transport is investigated for various-length alkanethiol self-assembled monolayers using three different characterization methods. In each method, the measured current-voltage characteristics are analyzed with metal-insulator-metal tunneling models.
