Equalities for the nonequilibrium work transferred from an external potential to a molecular system. Analysis of single-molecule extension experiments

Article Abstract:

Nonequilibrium work equalities are investigated for a system that experiences both intrinsic potential energy function, V(x), and an externally controlled time-dependent potential energy function, u(x,t). It is suggested that an appropriately strong external spring is required to precisely constrain the values of the extensional parameters such as length, area, and volume.

Molecular wire junctions: tuning the conductance

Article Abstract:

Study was conducted to investigate the junctions consisting of two electrodes and a single molecule acting as a wire by scanning probe conductance measurements. The conductance for low temperature, short wire structures can be characterized by the elastic scattering of the electrons, as described by general Landauer formulas.

An analytic approach describing structural effects on the properties of molecular fluids

Article Abstract:

An analytic approach is used to evaluate how the angular structure of a molecular fluid contributes to its thermodynamic properties. The study is used to examine the role that fluid structure plays in determining the average energy, pressure, and forces on a molecule.
