Expected and unexpected behavior of the orientational order and dynamic: Induced by azobenzene solutes in a nematic

Article Abstract:

A series of seven closely related azobenzene derivatives are studied in their trans and cis form dissolved at a mole fraction of 1% and 7% in the nematic 4-cyano-4'-n-pentylbiphenyl (5CB) liquid crystal. Study results found that the presence of the azo-derivative caused a depression of the nematic-isotropic transition temperature ([T.sub.NI]) in all the cases.

How can azobenzene block copolymer vesicles be dissociated and reformed by light?

Article Abstract:

The underlying mechanism of UV light-induced dissociation and visible light-induced reformation of vesicles formed by an azobenzene diblock copolymer was investigated. The study suggests a specific design principle for obtaining UV light-dissociable and visible light-recoverable vesicles based on azobenzene block copolymers.

Nonlinear effects during inscription of azobenzene surface relief gratings

Article Abstract:

Surface relief gratings are inscribed on azobenzene polymer films with the help of a pulselike exposure of an Ar(super +) laser. The conclusion states that the rate of trans-cis isomerization increases with the intensity of the inscribing light and in the dark it is equal to the rate of thermal cis-trans isomerization.
