Formation of branched fractal CdS patterns in oligomer LB monolayers: a study using transmission electron microscopy

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the formation of branched fractal CdS patterns in oligomer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers. The images of CdS aggregates in amphiphilic oligomer matrix were observed by transmission electron microscopy and transmission electron diffraction. Results indicate that the amphiphilic oligomers could be used to build different fractal patterns directly by changing the ratio between hydrocarbon chains and carboxylic groups, the surface pressure and the degree of oligomer's polymerization.

Search for more stable [C.sub.58][X.sub.18] isomers: Stabilities and electronic properties of seven-membered ring [Csub.58][X.sub.18] fullerene derivatives (X = H, F, and Cl)

Article Abstract:

A systematic density functional theory (DFT) calculations is performed on the stabilities and electronic properties of two different structures [Csub.58][X.sub.18] and [C.sub.58][X.sub.1], where X = H, F, and Cl. It is seen that the large energy gaps between the highest occupied molecular orbitals and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital and the aromatic character possess high stabilities.

Transparent perfuloropolyethers for vacuum ultraviolet applications

Article Abstract:

Optical absorption measurements in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) wavelength region were performed on perfluoropolyether commercial and experimental liquids. Nonperfluorinated chain ends are detrimental to the VUV transparency and high oxygen-to-carbon ratios in the perfluoroethereal backbone discourage the electronic delocalization along the fluorinated chain and increase the energy gap.
