Fourier transform infrared study on the encapsulation of CO in zeolite Y under the moderate temperature and pressure conditions

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the adsorption of CO in zeolite Y and on other metal oxides, MgO, gamma-Al2O3, SiO2, SiO2-Al2O3, TiO2, CeO2, under moderate temperature and pressure conditions. The adsorption was observed to give rise to carbonyl stretching bands at frequencies both lower and higher than that of gas-phase CO. Arguments are presented to demonstrate that the observations of the study are not in agreement with the reported modes of direct CO adsorption at the specific zeolitic sites such as the charge-balancing cations, Al3+ sites or the Bronsted acid sites.

FTIR study on molecular motions of benzene adsorbed in ZSM-5 zeolite: Role of charge-balancing cations and pore size

Article Abstract:

Occlusion of benzene in NaZSM-5 zeolite is investigated using in situ FTIR spectroscopy, as a function of substitution of Na(super +) with group 11A cations. The conclusion states that the benzene molecules are picked side by side with their planes parallel to the zeolite channel, the intermolecular interaction occurring through pi-electron cloud.

Effect of charge balancing cations on the entrapment of CO in Y-zeolite: FTIR spectroscopy study

Article Abstract:

Research into the impact of charge balancing cations on encapsulation of CO in the pores of Y-zeolite is presented. It is concluded that CO or CO2 molecules entrapped in narrow zeolitic cages undergo a dipole-dipole or van der Waals type weak interaction.
