From solution to langmuir-blodgett films: spectroscopic study of a zwitterionic dye

Article Abstract:

A spectroscopic study of gamma-(n-hexadecyl)quinolinium tricyanoquinodimethanide, C16H33Q-3CNQ, a very well-known zwitterionic donor-pi-acceptor chromophore, that behaves as a molecular rectifier is presented. Absorption and Raman spectra are collected from solution and solid samples as well as from Langmuir-Blodgett monolayer and multilayers.

Crystal structure and electron density of [alpha]-silicon nitride: Experimental and theoretical evidence for the covalent bonding and charge transfer

Article Abstract:

The crystal structure and electron-density distribution of [alpha]-silicon nitride ([alpha]-[Si.sub.3][N.sub.4]) is investigated. The results have shown that the high bulk modulus of the [alpha]-[Si.sub.3][N.sub.4] is attributed to the high minimum electron density of the Si-N bond.

Charge-sensitive vibrations in p-chloranil: the strange case of the C=C antisymmetric stretching

Article Abstract:

The phenomenon of C=C antisymmetric stretching of p-chloranil (CA) is explained. The stretching mode for CA is found to be highly dependent on the average charge (Q) of the molecule.
