GERMANY: PHARMACEUTICAL PACKAGING BY EVC

Article Abstract:

At its Botzingen plant German Staufen-based EVC Rigid Film GmbH has brought on stream a new machine for the coating of pharmaceutical packaging with polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC). With a capacity of 210 metres per minute, it is believed to be the biggest such machine worldwide. The capacity may be doubled. The DM 20mn investment in the new machine that meets the criteria of Good Manufacturing Practice created 40 new jobs. The machine allows solvent-free production. The coating with PVDC increases the steam barrier properties of plastic films by a factor of ten. The production plants of EVC Rigid Film GmbH in Staufen and Botzingen produce annually 35,000 tonnes of rigid film each. The company holds one-third of the world market for rigid-film blister packaging.

GERMANY: PFIZER TO CLOSE RESEARCH UNIT

Article Abstract:

The US pharmaceutical group Pfizer is to close R&D operations at its German Illertissen-based subsidiary Heinrich Mack Nachf. GmbH & Co. KG. The move affects 135 of the 600 staff. The German company will continue to produce pharmaceuticals. The research activities will be relocated to other Pfizer units.
