Grazing incidence X-ray scattering to probe the self-assembly of phthalocyanine nanorods on a liquid surface

Article Abstract:

The gracing incidence diffuse X-ray scattering (GIXOS) technique was applied to observe in-situ the standing-up of phthalocyanine compounds in a monolayer on a water surface, where the phase change from a low-density state with flat lying molecules to a high-density state. Observation of consistent values for the radius from both the interaxial and the interfacial Bragg rod analysis for each system reinforces the notion that the cylindrical model is a reliable method to describe such system, where organic chromophores are assembled on liquid surfaces.

Direct identification of conformational isomers of adsorbed oligothiophene on Cu(100)

Article Abstract:

A study directly investigates the s-cis and s-trans conformations of adsorbed 8T-Si on Cu(100) using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). Macroscopic conformations are identified from the relative positions of bulky N-silyl substituents, and comparison with the ab initio calculations reveals that the metastable s-cis conformations are induced by the thermal excitation during the evaporation at 588 K.
