Heterogeneous electron-transfer kinetics for flavin adenine dinucleotide and ferrocene through alkanethiol mixed monolayers on gold electrodes

Article Abstract:

The heterogenous electron-transfer properties of flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) were studied at self-assembled monolayer (SAM)-modified gold electrodes and compared to ferrocene-modified SAMs as a reference system. Based on the beta value for the FAD-modified electrodes and the magnitude of the apparent rate of electron transfer, rate constants for direct electron transfer to glucose oxidase at carbon nanotube-modified electrodes and graphite electrodes suggest the enzyme has been partially denatures from its native configuration.

Medium effects for very fast electron transfer reactions at electrodes: The [Ru(NH(sub 3))(sub 6)](super 3+)/(super 2+) system in water

Article Abstract:

The reduction kinetics of [Ru(NH(sub 3))(sub 6)](super 3+) was studied at Au(111) and Au(100) single-crystal ultramicroelectrodes in dilute perchloric acid electrolytes. The value of heterogeneous rate constant at Au(111) was significantly larger than that at Au(100), standard rate constants at both electrodes increased with an increase in electrolyte concentration and the effective charge on the reactant which has a nominal charge of +3 was close to +1.
