Heteropolyacid-encapsulated self-assembled materials for anhydrous proton-conducting electrolytes

Article Abstract:

A novel proton-conducting structure and mechanism consisting of 12-phosphotungstic acid (PWA) and polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSS) is proposed. Surprisingly, this material formed the PWA-encapsulated structure by the self-assembly of -SO3H onto the PWA surface and had the high anhydrous proton conductivity of 1 x [10.sup.-2] S [cm.sup.-1] at 180 degree Celsius.

Mechanisms of ion and water transport in perfluorosulfonated ionomer membranes for fuel cells

Article Abstract:

Various membranes are examined to clarify transport mechanisms of ions and water molecules in perfluorosulfonated ionomer membranes. The water transference coefficients for the Li- and Na- form membranes showed higher values than those of the H-form membranes, while the water permeabilities gave the inverse tendency.

Anhydrous protonic conductivity of a self-assembled acid-base composite material

Article Abstract:

The preparation for a self-assembled acid-base complex consisting of acidic surfactant monododecyl phosphate (MDP) and basic surfactant 2-undecylimidzole (UI) molecules with long hydrophobic chain is presented. The features of these UI-MDP composite materials are discussed.
