High-resolution soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies and scanning Auger microscopy studies of the air oxidation of alkylated silicon (111) surfaces

Article Abstract:

The oxidation of alkylated silicon (111) surfaces under ambient conditions is studied using high-resolution soft X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The observations show that the alkylated surface formed oxides in isolated, heterogeneous patches on the surface, which is attributed to the replacement of surface Si-H or Si-Cl bonds by Si-C bonds, which basically disturbs the mechanism of Si surface oxidation by blocking the surface physically from the ambient reactants.

Influence of small additions of Al(sub 2)O(sub 3) on the properties of the Na(sub 2)O.3SiO(sub 2) glass

Article Abstract:

The changes in structural properties of sodium alumino-silicate glasses of composition Na2O.xAl2O3.(3-x)SiO2 were investigated as a function of Al2O3 concentrations. Experimental techniques or computational investigations were not able to provide unequivocable responses for the rationalization of the measured properties of sodium alumino-silicate glasses.

A vapor-solid strategy to silica sheathed metal nanostructures and microstr4uctures via reactions of metal chlorides with silicon

Article Abstract:

A facile vapor-solid strategy is developed to prepare silica-sheathed metal micro/nanostructures with controllable shapes. As examples, silica-sheathed nickel nanowires, microcubes, nanocubes with an epitaxial tail, and one-dimensional assembly structures of nanoparticles as well as silica-sheathed cobalt and copper micro/nanostructures are synthesized.
