Hydration of tetraphenylphosphonium and tetraphenylborate ions by dielectric relaxation spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A systematic investigation of the dielectric spectra of aqueous solutions of NaBPh4 and Ph4PCl as representative salts containing these ions is described, with a view of comparing their hydration behavior. BPh(sub 4)(super -) and Ph4P(super +) have shown almost identical hydration characteristics, providing indirect support for the use of the tetraphenylphosphonium tetraphenylborate reference electrolyte assumption in deriving single-ion thermodynamic properties.

Dielectric relaxation of dilute aqueous NaOH, NaAl(OH)(sub)4, and NaB(OH)(sub)4

Article Abstract:

Results show that in aqueous solutions a 1:1 replacement of hydroxide ion by aluminate and borate occurs with release of bound water.
