Infrared absorption enhancement for Co adsorbed on Au films in perchloric acid solutions and effects of surface structure studied by cyclic voltammetry, scanning tunneling microscopy, and surface-enhanced IR spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the adsorption of carbon monoxide on gold thin film electrodes vacuum-deposited on silicon substrate. Surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and scanning tunneling microscopy were utilized to carry out the analysis. Experimental results indicated that 20 nm tick gold films supported island crystallites with a median size of ca. 60 nm. Findings also showed that the voltammetric characteristics of the films were similar to that of bulk polycrystalline gold electrodes.

Dimerization of sulfur headgroups in 4-mercaptopyridine self-assembled monolayers on Au(111) studied by scanning tunneling microscopy

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the structure of self-assembled monolayers of 4-mercaptopyridine on Au(111) in perchloric acid solution by in situ scanning tunneling microscopy. The electrolyte solutions were made with ultrapure HClO4. The Au(111) surface utilized was a facet on a single-crystal gold bead. Results indicated that 4-PySH molecules were absorbed on the surface as thiolate and disulfide in neutral solutions.
