Intramolecular quenching of porphyrin fluorescence by a covalently linked ferrocene in DNA scaffolding

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the intramolecular quenching of fluorescence from a cationic porphyrin by a covalently attached ferrocene in both solution and DNA. The ferrocenyl porphyrin was methylated with a large excess of methyl iodide. the UV/vis absorption spectra was then determined by the Perkin-Elmer Lambda-6 or Shimatzu UV-3101PC UV/vis spectrophotometer. Experimental results indicated that the binding of the tricationic porphyrin-ferrocene complex F3Fc to double-stranded DNA correlated with the ionic strength of the solvent.

Quinoxalino[2,3-b']porphyrin behave as [pi]-expanded porphyrins upon one-electron reduction: Broad control of the degree of delocalization through substitution at the macrocycle periphery

Article Abstract:

The synthesis and redox properties of a series of free-base and metal(II) quinoxalino(2,3-b']porphyrins and their use in an investigation of the substituent effects on the degree of communication between the porphyrin and its [beta],[beta]'-fused quinoxalino component are reported.
